Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC). CNC Machining Program was formed.
In 1998, five aerospace companies were instrumental in starting the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC) at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, CT. The Center had began as a two semester certificate CNC machining program.
The training model has worked effectively and is recognized statewide as the model advanced manufacturing education system. The goal in establishing the program was to provide the student significant levels of experimental learning using manual CNC machines. Complemented with related theory and core CNC set up and editing skills sets. In addition, math through trigonometry is stressed together with blueprint reading and GD&T. Finally, safety, lean manufacturing principles, and inspection skills including CMM programming and operation are required. The successful graduate will arrive at a company with the requisite technology and personal development skills under his or her belt and ready to continue training under a company mentor to guide the new employee through the training regimen unique to the company.
